The days you cannot book a halibut charter
Area 3A has closed days in 2026, and almost no visitor knows about them until they try to book. Here they are, with the size limits.

Every Wednesday, all season.
Every Tuesday, 2 June to 25 August 2026.
Daily limit
Two halibut per angler. One of any size, and one no more than 27 inches.

Plan around it
Between June and late August, Tuesday and Wednesday are both out. If you are on the peninsula Monday to Thursday, that leaves you two fishable days for halibut — and those are the days every other visitor is also trying to book.
Two practical consequences. Book your halibut day first and build the rest of the trip around it. And if your only free days fall midweek, look at a river trip or a Kachemak Bay species trip instead of losing the day entirely.

In Area 3A, which covers Homer, Seward, Ninilchik and Anchor Point, charter halibut fishing is closed every Wednesday for the whole season, and also every Tuesday from 2 June to 25 August 2026.
What is the charter halibut limit in 2026?
Two halibut per person per day in Area 3A: one of any size, and one that is no more than 27 inches long.
Does the 27-inch rule apply if I am not on a charter?
No. These limits apply to guided charter anglers in Area 3A. Unguided anglers fish under different rules, so check which category your trip falls into before you book.
How should the closed days change my booking?
If you have a short window on the peninsula, count the Tuesdays and Wednesdays out of it before you plan. A three-day midweek trip in July can easily contain two days on which you cannot legally fish for halibut on a charter.
